Guests in a week

A friend of mine, who I have never met in person, is coming to my house with her husband (I guess) on Saturday. She gave me a week's notice and didn't ask if I had plans, she just invited herself. Don't get me wrong, I want to met her but she is talking lunch, sightseeing and dinner. I am making lunch but with the other two things, well money is a little tight, but I guess I can scrounge up enough to go.
So what I'm asking, what do I do to get this place in shape in a few days?(Don't worry, I have started already) Concentrate on the worst areas? And I don't want to show her the bedrooms as they are disaster areas and need deep cleaning. I have been concentrating most of my efforts on my gardens and just tidying inside-so not worrying about guests. She told me she isn't 'Mrs. Goodhousekeeping', but still, I want to make a good first impression. I also maybe wanted to get out of going sightseeing, but not sure how to do so. I told her she should come down from NY through Lancaster and stop off there and then come here-haven't heard back from her about that. Any suggestions? How do I entertain her after I give her lunch and show her the yard?

if you are not up for sightseeing....just be honest with her! hopefully she will understand---but you need to let her know BEFORE she shows up. the both of you will be more comfortable if yall knew what to expect. maybe take out some board games, or make some tea. the best times are times when thing roll with the flow! just play it by ear. :o)

Thanks Amina. My mom mentioned the Brandywine River Museum. Now I wouldn't have to actually tour the museum since I've been there a lot, I could look in the gift shop and outside (where they have wildflowers) while my friends looked around (I wouldn't have to pay admission).

I think your plan sounds great Dianne! I mean show her the historical cool things and the garden and do lunch or dinner. Most importantly I'm sure she just wants to visit with you. If she's just dropping in and giving notice of her arrival in this short of time I mean she can't expect some totally fabulous weekend!

Thanks for your support gals. I haven't heard from my friend, so I don't know what to do-I'm just assuming she is still coming. I bought some chicken to grill for a cold pasta salad, just to have. I'll have to contact her tomorrow to see what is going on as I'm a planner. I sure can't do a lot of cleaning with a bad back.

I did send her an email tonight and asked what was up. I also said since we are so busy this month, can it be either lunch or dinner please? She wrote back and said the storm that went through on Sunday brought down a big tree in her yard and she got distracted. Said after 2 pm would be fine and we can go to dinner. Whew. Still a few hours to kill and I hope we aren't sitting around twiddling our thumbs. Wish me luck-I'm a bit nervous. Can you tell we don't have that much company? Totally because we live far away from most of the family.
Will be spending the rest of the week cleaning-it will be 95 on Friday, so I'll crank up the air and go to work.

I heard those storms are getting REALLY bad. They showed some footage on the news and I couldn't believe it!!

Hope you manage to get some fun out of the whole thing Dianne.

It turned out fine. I was nervous as they weren't showing up and it was 2pm. They got there about an hour later and she called me like 10 minutes before they arrived. I think they should have called when they left their house (11 am!). I get in a stew and all and make myself half sick. Bad girl. I need to have more company over I guess.

It was about what I expected. Are you gals comfortable making small talk for more than an hour? That was hard for me, but thank goodness I had lots of stuff to show and share with her.
