Any suggestions for a frazzled housewife? I haven't been able to hold much of a job for the last 2+ years due to an illness that recently has been taken care of, and am trying to get back on track w/getting the house looking as good as possible, or at least not looking like a tornado or a horde of vikings trampled thru.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

Re: Pacing yourself
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 12:32 PMI get frazzeled too, Fairylite! Sometimes if I look at the big picture things can get totally overwhelming! My advice is to pick one thing to do everyday for the week! Like one day.. clean out the closets or one day pick a room to work on.. that kind of thing. Taking things one at a time or a project at a time makes things way easier. Also adhere to a schedule.! I can't tell you how much this has helped me.. on certain days I know I've got things penciled in that HAVE to be finished!
Best of luck! -

Wed, October 10, 2007 - 12:39 PMI agree with Dare!
Also some 'speed' cleaning for like 10 minutes makes you feel better. I have days that I just can't do much myself. I take a synthetic feather duster and go through the living room and family room, stopping to shake it out the front door a few times. Sometimes I take a laundry basket and go clockwise (or counter clockwise!) in a room, putting things in that weren't put away to sort later (better not to wait to look to sort). This is good for when company is coming too!
I always have a bag/box started for Goodwill. When it gets full, it goes in the van and must be dropped off within a week or so. -

i think you're right, pick a project & go w/it, as well as the 10min thing....just have to make new "habits" I guess

Re: Pacing yourself
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 6:15 AMdare and dianne were spot on. those hand held swiffer wiper things are great for dusting, they pick up everything.
just start with a bit and then go on. you actually end up doing more than you think you have, and when you realize that its a great feeling.
what i've started doing in the past few years is just throw things out/drop off at good will. when i do laundry, i take out old clothes, hang the clean ones up, and then put the good will clothes in my car immediately, the store is just up the street so i can drop off a whole bunch in one hit. books i have no interest in, i place by the front door and then give them to my mother in law,
i buy those clear plastic bins with white lids from wally world, which make for great storage, all different sizes
all of my kids toys have their own bucket. makes cleaning up a breeze.
just remember, you still have to take time out for yourself. load up the tub, close the door, and hang the sign "Be Afraid Be Very Afraid"....lol
