Hello all Goddesses. Well we have had many bumps in my families road . Now my pants don't fit or barely fit. You know the ones you can wear them but they may be too tight. I am having a hard time not baking another cake or cookies. So I figured I would come to you knowledgeable Goddesses. Comfort is still very much needed but not something that we will need new clothes. Please help. We have of course used other forms of comfort but you know how a nice comfort food can just hit the right spot. Many Blessings

ha, ha, my comfort food in the states used to be Kraft Mac & cheese, but now since we have chickens its fried eggs & potatoes. (Although I don't think this is non fattening.) :o(
    Pineapple is scrumptious!
One day I made a cajun seared chicken salad with mango and onion & a fresh made vinagrette.
    *mmmm!*
Currently I REALLY love mandarin oranges, easy to peel & delicious to eat!
Apples might seem boring but I think thay're actually a girls best friend.
    Lots of luck & love!

    Stephanie,

I am not a usual member of this tribe, and have in fact joined just to answer your question (it was on the main page as one of the most recently posted questions).

When I'm low, I often think of things my mother used to make for me. I think this is the psychology behind why cookies and cakes are *comfort foods* (aside from their being sugary goodness).

For me, this would include frozen grapes , homemade parfaits with yogurt and whatever fruit is on sale/ in season, stewed tomatoes with mac and cheese (so you don't need as much cheese AND it has more flavor), etc. I offer these ideas to you, but odds are, they won't work as well for you as they do for me.

I suggest you sit down and think about things your caretaker made for you when you were little, and not just for special occasions. The DAILY things he/she/they made for you.

    hope that helps some,

    ~autumn

There's lots of things you can make that aren't fattening as the previous poster related. I think you enjoy cooking and baking most times it seems; the act of making the food items for your family may be part of the process of you gaining weight. Me too! Don't get me wrong, I like to make 'goodies' too. I am not a skinny minnie and probably never will be. I can't wear pants with zippers anymore if you get my drift (elastic is my friend). I can still be comfortable and look good. Being too heavy isn't good so I do a lot of subbing like ground turkey for hamburger and olive oil for margarine. I do need to move more when I can. I have lots of pre-menopausal things and aches and pains from having Lyme Disease, so I do what I can when I can.
      Good luck to you!

I find dips are always popular,- you could argue they are fattening (made of cream cheese and mayo, tuna etc) but the whole heap of carrot stick, peppar slices, cucumber sticks, get eaten in record time, with only a bit of dip for each person..

somehow when they are all sliced up looking so pretty and colourful, they go down very well.

I like apples, but when I am feelng like I want to make it more "comforting", I make little slices in a pretty dish, maybe even sprinkle a few raisins (or nuts) over them, for variety.

I agree that comfort food is food that I ate as a child.

My mom cooked a fair bit of Chinese food when we were younger, and I got really tired of it. As soon as I lived on my own, I stopped eating Chinese food, unless I went out for it. Recently, I've "rediscovered" it, and I love it. It's healthy, and very comforting.

That said....for snacks, I like things like apples with peanut butter, PBJ sandwichs (or PB banana). I also find breakfast foods very comforting, especially freshly made oatmeal, with apple and raisins cooked into it, with a bit of raw honey on top.

Hummus is also a great suggestion!

ants on a log= take a stick of cellery, smear the hollow with a little peanut butter (fattening I know, but its just a little), and dot a few raisins on them, veery yummie, and also satisfying

also I remembered that i always keep a supply of dried fruits at home. dried cranberries, apricots, pears, apples, pineapple, papaya, ,mango, ... I love them all. Some I am picky when it comes to brand, and it helps if the bag is non-see-through, they keep their flavour better, also they should still be a little soft.

and if I am feeling like a real treat I dip one side of each slice/chunk in melted chocolate, chill in the fridge.. yumm

Thank you all for your replys.Fruit seems to be a big one. Even though the one about dipping an end of dried fruit in chocolate sounded really good. Lately I got turned on to Passion fruit smoothies. I use reduced fat icecream. There were alot of good ideas. Thank you again. Many Blessings to you

You could do a lot with smoothies for good health. I like yogurt as a replacement for ice cream as my tummy seems to handle it better. I thought because yogurt was dairy, it would bother me and it's fine. I've been eating Activa yogurt when my tummy is off and it helps!
