i found a way to get the smell out of my father's jacket--Nature's Miracle Enzyme Cleaner & Stain Remover! I use it when my cats leave icky hairballs & takes care of them admirably. Just on a whim, I used it on my dad's jacket. I sprayed every inch of the thing on the inside & let it dry for a week or so. Then I turned it right side out & did the same thing. Then I washed it on a warm/warm setting & dried it. Now it's MUCH MUCH better. I can't really smell the smoke odor anymore, so I'm happy. Now, I'm just sewing up all the cigarette burned & torn holes left. I hope to wear it soon! *if it wasn't for the fact that it's a Green Bay Packers jacket, I wouldn't have tried so hard! whew!* Thought you all might want to know.

Sorry, don't visit tribe as much as before. I would say to put it in a big zip-lock bag like what Glad or Hefty makes with lots of dryer sheets for several days. Sometimes things can be hung and aired out too.

Sounds like good ideas! Yesterday, I sprayed the daylights out of it (pulling it inside out) w/some of the Nature's Miracle stain remover & deodorizer. It works for my pets' "problems" adequately, so I thought this would be a good idea. I hung it on my porch (it's enclosed) to let it soak in. I'm intending to put it right side out & do the same process today. Then i think I'll wash it as you suggest. Thanks!

Try putting it in the washer with some Oxyclean, some of the citrus cleaning stuff (usually comes in a gallon container), and some Febreze. I just pour some in, maybe a couple of ounces each, 1/2-1 scoop of the oxyclean, hot water and soaking for a short time if the fabric can take it. I think I put a very small amount of regular laundry soap in, too, but really can't remember, it's been quite a while since I've had to do this on anything. I have gotten both fish oil smell and cat urine smell out doing this.

How do I get the smell of Cigarettes out of the jacket (my dad's a HEEEAAAVVVVYYY Smoker)? I have washed it several times in scented laundry soap, sprayed it w/my body spray, soaked it in Shout...still it stinks. What do i do? it's a winter pull over jacket--lighter than a parka. What can I do?
